Why Naturopathy

What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a relatively common childhood disorder. It encompasses a spectrum of complex neurodevelopmental conditions that usually appear in early childhood and manifest as challenges in social communication and interaction, as well as the presence of restricted and repetitive behaviors, interests, and activities.

Why is early intervention important?

Autism is highly heritable, with genetic factors contributing

of the risk,

meaning that those with a family history are at an elevated risk of developing ASD and its comorbidities (co-occuring conditions).

Early diagnosis enables timely treatment of ASD with improved outcomes.

In fact, studies indicate that timely identification and interventions for autism have a greater likelihood of producing significant and lasting positive outcomes in terms of symptoms and future capabilities.

Certain children with ASD, who initially exhibit typical development, may experience a regression in their development just before the age of 2. Interventions can commence as early as 6 months of age, prior to or during preschool years. During this phase, a young child's brain is still in the process of formation, making it more adaptable and receptive to change compared to older ages.

This plasticity increases the chances of treatment effectiveness in the long run.
