Podcast: Moxie the Compassionate Robot

Dr Fanny Lam discussed with Eric Byron, a podcaster, tech adviser, and consultant, about the AI social robot MOXIE as an early intervention for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

In light of the growing awareness of ASD, the current diagnosis of ASD, which still heavily relies on specialists, is insufficient to meet the growing demands of ASD screening in children.

Thus, we developed a scientific, evidence-based clinical practice to assess the risk of ASD in children. Children assessed to have a higher risk of ASD can receive earlier intervention. For instance, allowing children with ASD to interact with our social robot, Moxie. Moxie can improve their social skills, such as receiving social cues, verbal and nonverbal communication, and building up eye contact.
